Path

Overview

The Path of Tazri
Reaching Into the Sea
"To command the Sea is to know oneself drowned — and still speak."
Tazri (Sigtaara: "out-energy") flows from the Arcane Sea, a formless reservoir of raw magic. It is not loyal, sentient, or responsive — it is gravitational, eternal, and amoral.
The path of Tazri is walked through one's Saeje (soul), refined not by strength, but by surrender and structure.

Five stages chart this journey — the fifth being mythical, not sought, but suffered.

Stages

Summary

The caster makes first contact with the Arcane Sea — unsteady, raw, and overwhelming. It is not mastery but survival.

Quote
Text
The Sea does not beckon. It presses.
Speaker
Unknown initiate, recorded moments before Zaelmonir.
Description

Taz’Sulak is the first stage of Tazri — the trembling contact between Saeje and Sea. The Arcane Sea is not passive. It presses into the soul with weight and force, often without warning or rhythm. Contact may come through rites, ancestral invocations, or meditative trauma, but it is never gentle. The caster, still unfamiliar with the Sea’s flows, experiences spells as violent bursts — unstable, exhausting, and deeply disorienting. Conduits such as mentors, artifacts, or physical foci are essential. Without them, most drown. Many who enter this stage do not return — their Saeje eroded by the tides of Yoos’Okaaz, dissolved into Zaelmonir. The few who survive emerge permanently marked: their nerves frayed, their vision shifted, their self no longer whole — but no longer ignorant.

Signs
  • Hands tremble uncontrollably after spellcasting
  • Eyes leak light, ink, or blood during rites
  • Arcane effects surge unpredictably
  • Persistent dreams of drowning, pressure, or blue flame
  • Unexplained nausea, disassociation, or whispers before a casting
Examples
  • Context
A novice lights a candle with a whispered word — and the entire altar erupts in wild blue flame.
    Tazri Nature
The Sea responds disproportionately, rejecting the caster’s unstable channeling.
  • Context
A child speaks to an old stone, and hears it reply in layered voices they do not understand.
    Tazri Nature
A chance contact with a saturated node of the Arcane Sea — no rite, only raw pressure.
  • Context

An apprentice survives their first rite only by clutching a relic that absorbs the overflow of the Sea.

    Tazri Nature
The conduit absorbs the spell’s instability, shielding the caster from Zaelmonir.
Limitations
  • Extreme instability in spellcasting.
  • Complete dependence on conduits.
  • High risk of Zaelmonir (soul-drowning).
  • Overwhelming physical and mental strain.
Transition
To Next Stage

The caster must develop arcane endurance and begin sensing the Sea’s underlying rhythm — no longer just surviving contact, but recognizing pattern within chaos.

Obstacles
  • Fear of re-entering the Sea’s pressure
  • Over-reliance on external conduits
  • Unresolved trauma from first contact
  • Spiritual disorientation and Saeje destabilization
Rarity
Uncommon — many study magic, few survive first contact with the Sea directly.
Alignment With Saeje
None — the caster’s Saeje is unadapted, resisting the Sea’s pressure.
Tazri Expression
Control
None
Instability
Chaotic
Awareness

Significance

The caster has stepped beyond theory into lived danger. The Saeje has tasted the Sea. There is no return to the unmarked self.

The Listening Wake
Sigtaara

Out-Listening
Summary

The caster begins to detect the Sea’s rhythm — recognizing patterns, predicting flows, and achieving fragile fluency.

Quote
Text
At last, it hums. Not for me — but near me.
Speaker
Yerin Maal, apprentice of House Kharúl
Description

Taz’Gohraazil is the second stage of Tazri, marking the beginning of comprehension. Where Taz’Sulak was survival through pressure, Gohraazil is the moment the caster begins to listen. The tides of the Arcane Sea reveal patterns — not always logical, but consistent. Spells become more stable through repetition. The caster can cast simple effects without conduits, sensing a resonance point between will and world. Most significantly, they develop a 'wake-trace' — an intuitive sense of places and times where the Sea’s pressure sharpens or slackens. While fluency remains distant, the caster has begun to float. The Sea still moves around them, but it no longer drowns them outright.

Signs
  • Fingers tingle before arcane surges
  • The caster can predict when ritual spaces feel ‘right’
  • Basic spells now cast without aid — albeit imperfectly
  • Recurring dreams of glyphs in water or speech without voice
  • A sense of resonance in certain materials, like quartz, bone, or copper
Examples
  • Context
A student draws a glyph in the sand and it glows for the first time — faint, but steady.
    Tazri Nature
The caster’s intuitive grasp of ritual form aligns with a stable wake-flow in the Sea.
  • Context
During meditation, a novice senses an arcane surge in the sky minutes before a storm hits.
    Tazri Nature
They’ve attuned to a wake-trace — the Sea’s pressure tightening in response to a natural event.
  • Context
A ritualist casts a flame charm without their staff for the first time, burning only their sleeve.
    Tazri Nature
Spell stability has improved, but remains inconsistent — conduit partiality remains.
Limitations
  • Emotional volatility may corrupt spells.
  • Moderate dependence on conduits for non-basic effects.
  • Mental fatigue sets in before physical exhaustion.
  • Arcane residue begins to cling to the caster’s Saeje.
Transition
To Next Stage

The caster must learn not only to hear the Sea, but to shape its flow through their own rhythm — forging a stable and personal spellform.

Obstacles
  • Reliance on repetition instead of intuition
  • Fear of improvisation
  • Emotional repression or volatility
  • Early signs of arcane residue disrupting the Saeje’s clarity
Rarity
Rare — many falter here, unable to maintain balance between pattern and pressure.
Alignment With Saeje
Shifting — the Saeje begins adapting to rhythmic touch, but remains externally reactive.
Tazri Expression
Control
Limited
Instability
Volatile
Awareness
Intuitive
Significance

The caster has stopped bracing. They are beginning to float. Their Saeje now bears the first grooves of intentional spellwork.

Taz Yokaazil
Title
The Silent Binding
Sigtaara
Taz’Yokaazil
English
Out-Binding
Summary

The Sea no longer resists. Spells shape themselves with grace, and the caster begins to lose their edges to the magic they channel.

Quote
Text
I thought I was casting the spell. Then I realized it was casting me.
Speaker
Haelaa Orush, upon her third binding
Description

Taz’Yokaazil is the third stage of Tazri — the moment spellcasting ceases to feel like effort and begins to feel like design. The caster has developed a personal rhythm, a recognizable trace known as a Spellform. This inner structure anchors their relationship with the Sea, making most castings fluid and consistent. The Sea, in turn, begins to recognize them — spells flow with greater speed and subtlety, often forming the moment the caster thinks of them. However, this fluency comes at a cost: the caster begins to dissolve, piece by piece, into the very spells they perform. Identity becomes porous. Intention bleeds into effect. Each rite subtly reshapes the one who performs it. Ego thins, and with it, the comfort of boundaries.

Signs
  • Rituals complete with few or no incantations
  • The caster's glyphs evolve without conscious design
  • Spells manifest instinctively under pressure
  • Physical changes (eye color shifts, runic markings, temperature alterations) persist after casting
  • Unintended emotional overtones emerge in otherwise clean spells
Examples
  • Context

A weather-mage gestures at storm clouds and they part without a word — but their voice trembles for hours afterward.

    Tazri Nature
The Sea reacts instantly to their Spellform, but its residue echoes back into their emotional state.
  • Context

A battlefield caster chants mid-charge, and their skin glows faintly for days with the spell’s remaining rhythm.

    Tazri Nature
The spell imprinted itself onto the body — the boundary between self and magic now thin.
  • Context

A scribe draws their sigil and finds it reshaped by instinct, more elegant than their original design.

    Tazri Nature
Spellform reflexively refines the caster’s intent, as the Sea responds to subconscious patterns.
Limitations
  • Ease may lead to overconfidence or instability.
  • Spellform can become rigid or self-defining.
  • Unprocessed emotions begin to leak into castings.
  • Sustained use may cause blurring between self and spell.
Transition
To Next Stage

The caster must integrate the spellform into body and motion — becoming the rite rather than performing it.

Obstacles
  • Fear of further ego dissolution
  • Attachment to stable identity
  • Inflexible spellform becoming over-defined
  • Unresolved emotions warping arcane output
Rarity
Very rare — many casters plateau here, unable or unwilling to surrender to further transformation.
Alignment With Saeje
Harmonizing — the Saeje and Sea now shape each other in tandem.
Tazri Expression
Control
Partial
Instability
Oscillating
Awareness
Internal
Significance

The Sea no longer resists the caster. It remembers them. Tazri begins to flow as if the caster were a natural conduit.

Taz Laasok
Title
The Willwoven Rite
Sigtaara
Taz’Laasok
English
Out-Woven
Summary

The caster becomes the spell — each movement, breath, and word is a ritual. Tazri flows invisibly, flawlessly, and with grace.

Quote
Text
I do not cast anymore. I walk, and the Sea sings.
Speaker
Eruven Sal’Khar, High Listener of the Seventh Chamber
Description

Taz’Laasok is the fourth stage of Tazri, when the caster no longer performs magic — they embody it. Every motion is a glyph, every breath a thread of rite. Spellcasting no longer requires structure or incantation. It emerges from the caster as naturally as thought. The body itself becomes the ritual — aligned with the Sea’s rhythm, echoing its flows in posture, tone, and gesture. At this stage, the Sea reflects the caster’s essence with uncanny precision. Spirits within Yoos’Okaaz may even begin to echo the caster’s presence, recognizing them as part of the current. Arcane actions become graceful and often unnoticed by the untrained. Yet the magic here is potent, woven not with force, but with resonance.

Signs
  • Spells emerge mid-sentence or in silence
  • Environmental shifts follow the caster’s emotional arc
  • Ritual tools are abandoned, replaced by posture or presence
  • Animals, spirits, or children sense the caster’s rhythm
  • Casters move as if guided by unseen tides
Examples
  • Context
A Flamewright walks through a firestorm without harm, and the flames part naturally.
    Tazri Nature
The caster’s Saeje and body have woven into a single, ambient invocation of protection.
  • Context

An aged caller exhales near a cliff and the fog thickens, forming a boundary between his camp and the hunt beyond.

    Tazri Nature
The Sea amplifies his quiet intention, shaping the world in rhythm with his breath.
  • Context

A Seer enters a market and all noise drops slightly, unnoticed by the crowd — but conversations shift, decisions sway.

    Tazri Nature
The caster’s presence exerts a passive weave, resonating with the Sea’s emotional undercurrents.
Limitations
  • Creation from nothing remains impossible.
  • Cannot shape the Sea itself, only offer form to its pressure.
  • Emotional echo is intense — joy, grief, and rage manifest externally.
  • World-shaping spells still require full rites.
Transition
To Next Stage

The caster must surrender even identity — allowing their Saeje to dissolve into the Sea itself, becoming a channel for raw cosmic rhythm.

Obstacles
  • Fear of complete ego-dissolution
  • Over-identification with the beauty of performance
  • Difficulty relinquishing control to rhythm
  • Unwillingness to merge with the greater Arcane flow
Rarity
Extremely rare — only lifelong practitioners or blessed prodigies reach this fluid state.
Alignment With Saeje
Full — the caster's Saeje now dances in tandem with the Sea’s will.
Tazri Expression

Instability

Significance

This is not performance. It is fluency. The caster’s presence is now part of the Arcane rhythm — a shape the Sea falls into naturally.

Taz Zorzulkar
Title
The Drowned Star
Sigtaara
Taz’Zorzulkar
English
Out-Drowned-Star
Summary

The caster descends irreversibly into the Sea, becoming a myth, a wound, or a ripple in the weave of the world.

Quote
Text
The Sea remembers what we forget. I remember nothing — and now I am everything.
Speaker
Alaenth Khyra, final words before vanishing
Description

Taz’Zorzulkar is not a stage one reaches. It is a state one falls into — willingly or not. It is the drowning of the Saeje in the Arcane Sea, where ego dissolves and all barriers between the caster and magic collapse. The individual ceases to exist in a conventional sense. What remains is an Echo Form: a flickering presence between realms, steeped in Tazri so deeply that they alter reality by proximity alone. Their words warp probability. Their touch leaves glyphs in bone. Most who descend this far are never seen again. Some remain, haunting ley-lines or appearing in dreams. Others become places — a grove that whispers, a ruin that heals, a river that forgets. The Drowned Star does not burn. It absorbs. It warps. It remains. Or it doesn’t. But it is never undone.

Signs
  • Reality subtly twists in their presence — ink runs uphill, fire speaks, wounds bloom instead of bleed

  • They speak in multiple tongues or temporal loops
  • Casting happens without gesture or intention — it simply occurs
  • Others dream of them, even across vast distances
  • Arcane anomalies persist where they last stood — echoes, scentless flame, reversed footprints
Examples
  • Context
A caster enters a shrine and disappears — no body, only molten glyphs burned into the walls.
    Tazri Nature
The caster’s Saeje collapsed fully into the Sea, leaving a permanent scar upon the physical plane.
  • Context
A village once blessed by a wandering mage continues to produce spellborn children for generations.
    Tazri Nature
Their Echo Form lingers subtly, rewriting the boundaries of heredity and arcane inheritance.
  • Context

A scholar hears their own thoughts interrupted by a vanished caster’s voice — quoting dreams they never told.

    Tazri Nature
The Drowned Star’s memory has bled into the subconscious channels of the world.
Limitations
  • No conscious will remains.
  • Spells occur without intent or structure.
  • Echo Forms decay, lose memory, and blur temporally.
  • There is no known method of reversal.
Transition
To Next Stage
There is no next stage. Only diffusion, myth, or oblivion.
Obstacles
  • Surrender of identity
  • Arcane collapse through trauma or overreach
  • Exposure to deep-node rites or raw Yoos’Okaaz
  • Ego-burn through overcasting or isolation
Rarity
Mythical — only legends, ruins, and anomalies remain as evidence.
Alignment With Saeje
Transcended — the Saeje no longer acts. It *is* the Sea, or what remains of it.
Tazri Expression
Control
Unbound
Instability
Echoing
Awareness
Dissolved
Significance

The Sea has claimed them. Their Saeje is no longer a soul — it is a wound in the weave, through which the Sea still leaks. They are caution, myth, and prayer. And sometimes, they whisper what lies before the First Thought.
