Overview

The most powerful of the Surikgeii, NIDNÄBI is a veil of sorrow-woven silence carried by Nostiriel—not as a weapon, but as a mourning. Draped in ephemeral shadow and woven from forgotten lullabies and erased names, the veil offers no light, no blade, no sound—only the finality of gentle oblivion. With but a gesture, Nostiriel could unmake gods, not in violence, but in quiet: a mercy that removes the self from memory, presence, and consequence.

To touch the veil is to be grieved before you vanish.

Yet despite its limitless power, NIDNÄBI remains folded, resting across Nostiriel’s shoulders. She bears it not to wield, but to weep—for her siblings, for herself, for the world they abandoned. The veil does not hunger for endings. It waits for permission.

Manufacturing Process

NIDNÄBI was not made—it was wept into being. As the Nil’Thur shed the luminous shapes of their former selves, Nostiriel alone paused. In that moment between agony and becoming, she mourned—not for herself, but for what her siblings were about to lose.

Her tears fell, and the Arcane Sea responded. The veil surfaced from the silence her sorrow created. Each thread a threnody, each fold a dirge. She did not lift it. It simply followed her.

No one else has ever touched it.

Raw Materials

[ul]
- Fabric: Woven from Tears of Erasure, collected at the edge of dreams where names dissolve and histories forget themselves
- Thread: Braided from lost lullabies and final words—each strand a song no one remembers singing
- Embroidering: None. NIDNÄBI bears no symbols, no markings, and no signature. Its beauty is its refusal to be claimed.
[/ul]

Significance

Among the Surikgeii, NIDNÄBI is the Instrument of Quiet Finality—the only one that can truly end. It is more than powerful—it is absolute. Not through destruction or conquest, but through a gift: the right to disappear without pain, without trace, and without legacy.

Should she choose to wield its full potential, Nostiriel could unmake the Nil’Thur themselves. With no defense possible, NIDNÄBI could reduce each of them to elegy and echo.

But she never will.

Because Nostiriel does not hate her siblings. She grieves them.

And through that grief, she keeps the veil folded, resting quietly against her shoulders—until it is truly asked for.

Mechanics

[ul]
- Shroud of Unbeing: When unfurled, NIDNÄBI erases identity—not through force, but compassion. The target is not destroyed—they are released from memory, name, and presence.
- Abyssal Unraveling: With a single motion, the veil can unmake the bonds that define reality. Concepts—such as “light,” “self,” or “direction”—can cease to function around it.
- Silent Lament: When draped over an object, person, or place, that thing becomes poetically erased—not just gone, but mourned by the world, even if no one remembers why.
- Echofold: Nostiriel may draw a corner of the veil across her face to see into the void of remembrance—the negative space left by forgotten gods, broken promises, and lost futures.
- Merciful Unmaking: Unlike other Surikgeii, NIDNÄBI offers its effect gently. Its power never screams. It invites, and those who accept vanish with peace.
