Summary

From shared Long Season stock on Hjemland, humanity sorts by habitat rather than by rite or blood-magic. Surface peoples of coast, forest, and plain become what later Sigtaara taxonomy names Medesjul; deep peoples of hill, vein, and under-stone become what Sigtaara taxonomy names Kaetijul. Both still call themselves human. Folk myths harden wrong: Many First Fires on the surface; the Unfinished Work and the First Cut in the deep. The true fork is ecological — one people answering different pressures of the same continent.

Surface

Coastal, forest, and plains humanity spreads wide. Seasons, storms, game, and shifting shores select for adaptability. Their dominant false origin is Many First Fires: every valley and harbor claims its first continuous hearth as the true beginning of people. There is no agreed first human — only competing oldest flames.

Deep

Hill and under-stone humanity follows mineral veins, geothermal warmth, and the slow logic of the Sigkolzûl. Stone's timescale shapes body and temperament. Their genesis-hook is the Unfinished Work: something began a people in the mountain and left the work incomplete; they are that work finishing itself. Their identity-marker is the First Cut: they became themselves when they first cut living rock on purpose. No named maker is required; the vacancy is the hook.

Naming

The Sigtaara branch-names Medesjul and Kaetijul are later scholarly classifications in Nixxia's learned register. The people of Hjemland continue to speak of all branches as human or humanity, distinguishing kin by place, holdfast, and craft — not by taxonomic genus.

What They Miss

That they are one Long Season people; that they are the world's Ego through Ykheri; that the fork is habitat, not separate creations or virtue contests.
