Thalon: The Memory Economy — Continuance, Removes, the Unity Edict, and the Grove Reading

Grounded in: countries_and_continents.continents.siniath.nations.thalon (founding date 12 Daazil ASS 1494 / MV 11100; lifespan 260–300; endocannibalism of elders; memory sanctification; hesyaziz rune-trees; Unity Edict MV 12580; Veil-Lifting festival; Sphere of the Inner; Sphere of Treasure; Ael'voriin; interbreeding taboo with penalty of exile or erasure from records; Kaekreaedhel at 2% bound by oath post-Unbinding Purge; map-extracted biome shares). history.events.reformation_of_thalon (MV 11100). history.events.consolidation_phase (Unity Edict MV 12580). history.events.the_kaelotaedhel_purges_escalate (memory-sanctification used to erase rebel histories; backfired). history.events.the_burning_cradle (arcane oil used to burn a seed-tower). history.events.twisted_revolt. myths.founding_of_triumvirate (AZN 1385). ranks.archmagus_triumvir. persons.elyndor / persons.thalira / persons.vorian. settlements.aeltheryn. Writing suite (not canon): song "They Did Not Bind The Tree" — the Edict as a carving in the hand by Methraug-fire that binds saying rather than memory; hesyaziz bark as an unbound channel; scribes transcribing grove-marks into the archive at Veil-Lifting; grove burnings; Kormistahl exiles carrying the song.

Update the calendar-offset bullet: the offset question is now resolved at 9605 and the Unity Edict carries ASS 2975. The remaining open question is the founding date itself, which is the lone outlier.

## Thesis

Thalon's founding date and its stated lifespan do not reconcile. The Second Triumvirate was declared 12 Daazil, ASS 1494 (MV 11100). The present year is 130 ABP (MV 13000) — a gap of 1,900 years. Canon gives Kaelotaedhel a lifespan of 260–300 years, yet Elyndor, Thalira and Vorian are listed as the sitting Triumvirs with active portfolios.

This package treats that gap as deliberate rather than as an error to be patched away. The proposal: the three names are offices, and each holder inherits the previous holder's memory by the endocannibalistic rite canon already assigns to Thalonian elders. Inherited memory arrives in the first person, so each successor sincerely remembers founding the state. No one in the Spire is lying. The fraud is structural, not conspiratorial, and survives any Methraug oath-fire you light under it.

From that single move, three connected institutions follow, and all three are already half-seeded in existing canon and in the Write-section song *They Did Not Bind The Tree*.

## What each item does

1. **The Continuance** (new entity) — the Triumvir succession rite. Establishes offices-not-people, seven holders across six transmissions, and memory drift as the reason the three Triumvirs now hold irreconcilable first-hand accounts of the same founding day.
2. **The Reckoning of Removes** (new entity) — the memory economy. A *remove* is one mouth between a holder and an original experience. Ael'voriin rank keys off it. Covers seeding (forged provenance), dilution (the memory analogue of the interbreeding taboo), and the standing jurisdictional fight between the Sphere of the Inner and the Sphere of Treasure over whether memory is property.
3. **The Unity Edict** (new event entity) — MV 12580 / ASS 2975. Gives the Edict the mechanic the song already specifies: carved into the hand by Methraug-fire, binding *utterance and naming*, not thought or memory. Explains the tolerance clause as the price of getting all seven cults to co-sign enforcement. Names the bark loophole as an unintended consequence.
4. **The Grove Reading** (new entity) — the Veil-Lifting transcription rite, and the loophole in practice: carving is not saying, hesyaziz wood is sacred and uncuttable, and scribes copy grove-marks into the archive because the archive is holy and the holy is not weighed.
5. **The Contaminated Archive** (prose) — why the state does not close the loophole, and the payoff: if inherited memory degrades and bark does not, the groves hold the only accurate account of MV 11100, annotated for centuries by the people Thalon erased.
6. **The Dilution Gambit** (prose) — Sixth Age hooks only, deliberately unresolved, since the Sixth Age is the play era.
7. **Two field patches on the Thalon entity** — one adding a succession-and-continuity section, one replacing the climate description with map-derived biome data per the standing authority rule (map wins geography; article wins culture and specific places).
8. **Relation edges** wiring the three traditions to Thalon and cross-referencing the Edict from the Consolidation Phase event.

## Open questions for review

- **New namespace.** Items 1, 2 and 4 are filed under a `traditions.` prefix that does not yet exist in the index, though a `tradition` template guideline does. Relocate or rename freely — the ids are the least considered part of this package.
- **The founding date does not reconcile.** The ASS-to-MV offset is 9605, confirmed by four independent date pairs (ASS 1445 / MV 11050 and ASS 1595 / MV 11200 in the reformation_of_thalon timeline; ASS 1445–3265 / MV 11050–12870 in the Thalon article). AMD and ABP are internally consistent too, at 6400 and 12870. Exactly one date in canon fails: Thalon's own founding_date, '12 of Daazil, ASS 1494 (MV 11100)', which implies 9606. Under 9605 the founding falls in either ASS 1495 or MV 11099. The calendar gives no excuse — the year opens on 1 Etzil with Sin'Ruvos and Daazil is the third of five months, so 12 Daazil sits mid-year and cannot straddle a boundary. The Unity Edict item follows 9605 and records ASS 2975. Whether the founding date gets tidied on canonisation or kept as a discrepancy the setting means is yours to decide; keeping it is thematically on-message for a package about a state that cannot establish when it was founded.
- **How much drift?** The Continuance item sets the current Triumvirs at six removes from the founding and lets their accounts diverge. If you want the drift tighter or looser, that number is the dial.
- **Does the state know?** As written, the Sphere of the Inner knows about the bark loophole and protects it, because closing it would void the archive that is the Inner's entire claim to authority. The alternative — genuine institutional blindness — is less interesting but easier to run at the table.
- **Sindala naming.** All three traditions carry English descriptive names. If you want native coinages I can run candidates through the lexicon and translation tools before you accept.

## Held back

Zok'othrond, the First Triumvirate, the Unbinding Purge, the Deep Harmony Pact and the Tide Accord are not in this package. The Unity Edict is included despite being on that list because items 1, 4, 5 and 6 all depend on its mechanic being fixed first.
