Winged Wyrm (disputed)

Origin

Lotkrosis

Description

Short

A partially documented, light-drinking coastal wyrm of Lotkrosis, known only from expedition accounts.

Full

The Ashveil is a large coastal predator native to the jagged shores of Lotkrosis. No scientific record exists; what is known derives from the accounts of expedition survivors, dream-poem literature, and the testimony of 'haunted relic' traders. Most descriptions agree on a pale, ridge-backed silhouette rising from sea-caves, and on scales that appear to absorb ambient light rather than reflect it. Prolonged proximity to an Ashveil is reported to cause disorientation, auditory distortion, and an unshakeable sensation of being watched from multiple directions. Whether this effect is magical in nature or a passive biological consequence of the creature's interaction with Lotkrosis' pervasive Arcane Sea energies is unknown. Some accounts describe functional wings; others do not. It is unresolved whether this reflects individual variation, separate species, or unreliable observation under distress. The Ashveil is not classified as magical in origin. The Arcane Sea saturation of Lotkrosis is treated as the environmental source of its anomalous traits.

Anatomy

Body Structure

Estimated large and heavy-set, with a broad dorsal ridge and low-slung posture suited to cave mouths and wave-cut platforms. Wing presence disputed across accounts.

Scale Characteristics

Partially translucent, pale grey to white. Scales appear to darken ambient light in their immediate vicinity — a passive biological trait, likely related to prolonged exposure to Lotkrosis' Arcane Sea saturation. No iridescence reported.

Facial Features

Described inconsistently. Most accounts note a wide, flat head, no visible external ears, and eyes that appear to emit a faint inverse glow — described as 'darker than the dark around them.'

Ecology

Habitat
Jagged sea-caves and tidal rock platforms along the Lotkrosis coastline
Role
Presumed apex coastal predator; no prey species confirmed

Diet

Type
Presumed carnivorous
Primary Prey
Unknown; expedition survivors have reported missing crew members in Ashveil territories
Hunting Behavior

Unknown. One account describes stillness — the creature reportedly did not pursue, but waited inside a sea-cave until approached.

Seasonal Behavior

Activity
Unknown
Breeding
Unknown

Intelligence

Comparable To

Unassessed. Survivors describe a quality of attention — the sense of being evaluated — but no coordinated or communicative behavior has been confirmed.

Senses

Sight
Suspected excellent in low light given habitat; eye structure anomalous
Hearing
Unknown
Arcane Absorption

Scales passively interact with ambient Arcane Sea energies, producing disorienting effects on humanoids in proximity. Mechanism unknown.
