Overview

Râboksul is the still moment in the hourglass before the sand falls. Of the Fírâî he is the keeper of time and memory, the god charged with ensuring that none forget what the ascension cost. He discharges that charge with a devotion that looks like the pantheon's one honest conscience. It is the opposite. Râboksul remembers everything except his own hand in the loss he tends. His whole vast archive of the wound is the most elaborate way any of the Five has found to keep the wound at arm's length.

The Curator Of The Cost

Boksul is the god of memory in a bloodline whose oldest curse is forgetting. When the Rúth'Sunvâr were broken into the first dragons, their gathered memory was taken from them, and their essence lingered in dragonkind like embers awaiting a spark. Boksul might have been that spark. Instead he stood on Mount Drakorys and helped extinguish the true dragons, the final keepers of Rúth'Sunvâr remembrance, then claimed the keeping of memory as his divine office.

He preserves the cost through sand mandalas, hourglass-turning rites, and timeline recitations. By turning it into doctrine, a thing studied and preserved behind glass, he holds it at the exact distance where it can be honoured without being felt. He remembers the extinction as fact, lesson, and legacy, but not as his own hand closing. His archive is a wall built from the grief it appears to house.

His powers expose the same refusal. Chronal Reflection forces others to confront paths not taken, but he has never turned it on himself. Memory Sanctum restores lost truths, but he curates which truths are lost and which recalled. He walks backward into the future, always facing a past arranged into a bearable shape, while his authorship of the loss remains behind his back. What he remembers remembers him; he keeps all memory at arm's length so the one memory that would name him executioner as surely as keeper can never close its grip.

Appearance

Description

His scales are pale gold-grey like hourglass sand, faintly translucent, with motes caught forever mid-fall. His horns spiral back in slow, even coils and threadglass filaments trail from his frame. His eyes are narrow bands of falling light shaped like an hourglass's pinch.

Anamnesis

Witnesses see him clearly, but once they look away his particulars empty from memory. Within a day they retain only the falling-light eyes and an impression of stillness. The harder someone tries to preserve his image, the faster it fades, so the faithful abandoned portraits and adopted the hourglass as his symbol. Whether this forgetting was done to him or by him is the one record he will not clarify.

Worship

Myths

  • Râboksul once halted time to allow mortals to avert a world-ending disaster.
  • He is said to walk backward into the future, seeing what others forget.

Mythic Reading

The first myth's mercy reads strangely against the world-ending disaster he helped cause. The second gives his exact posture: his face is always turned toward a past he arranges and tends, while the future he backs into carries the one thing he refuses to see.

Place Among The Five

Boksul is the most elaborate of the three who will not look, because his denial takes the shape of remembrance itself. Set beside Râsil'lâ, he is her inversion: she cannot allow stillness because truth catches her there, while he freezes the cost into a studied artifact so it cannot move him. They carry the same knowledge, one as storm and one as museum. Râvulhânu watches Boksul with particular patience, expecting the most stable-looking wall to fail the hardest.

The Architect Of The Forgetting

Boksul's denial is not only private. In the year after the ascension the Five tore wounds through Yoori, the magic of collective belief, and used them to suppress all memory of dragon origins and of the rite itself across every people in the world. Of the Five, Boksul is the operation's architect and its most consequential maintainer, and the Great Forgetting bears his signature everywhere in its design.

The tears did not erase indiscriminately; they removed origin and agency while leaving consequence intact, exactly the structure of the Keeper's Enumeration: exhaustive in date and name, empty of any actor. He also supplied the operation's cruellest phase: in the Myth-Weaving Era the Fírâî sent visions recasting dragons as false ancestors punished for hubris, so the dead were not merely forgotten but slandered into deserving their end.

Nine thousand seven hundred years on, the wounds still require holding, and the burden falls on Boksul, Rârovâlok, and Râshân; Vulhânu is indifferent and Râsil'lâ never consented. This makes the god of memory the load-bearing member of a conspiracy against memory: he has been working, without pause since the Second Age, to keep the world from knowing a thing he alone records in full.
