"character": "Seasonal. In high summer the peat firms enough to bear infantry on foot but not carts; in the wet season the whole belt becomes impassable and the channels move. Fever is endemic. Revakgol lost more soldiers to the water than to the Zegtuzsos in every year of Phase II.",
"overview": "A belt of standing water, peat and reed running roughly east-west behind the Medestul, wide enough that no army had ever crossed it in force and shallow enough that it could not be sailed.\n\nThe Zegtuzsos did not defend the fens. They lived on the far side of them and let the ground do the work.",

"character": "Effectively unstormable by the standards of the age and effectively unstarvable in the short term, since its water was internal and its stores deep. What it could not do was end. There was nowhere further to withdraw to and nobody left to relieve it.",
"legacy": "Still inhabited. Garrisoned by the Empire under the terms of the surrender, and administered by a Mulaagjun, which makes it the clearest physical statement of what the settlement of 1305 actually was. In Saarotsos usage the name has drifted into an idiom for an ending everyone survived, which Zegtuzsos speakers find intolerable.",

### The Busyl Causeway (location · construction, canon id: locations-busyl-causeway)
The Long Fault The surviving stretch runs about a third of the way into the belt before it disappears. The far section, past the ambush point, was fired and sank; in dry years the stone core surfaces as a line of humps with no road between them. Zegtuzsos guides still use the visible stretch as a landmark and refuse to walk its length. Imperial engineering schools teach the causeway as the founding failure of the discipline - every rule about escort intervals and section-holding on military road comes from what happened here. A raised roadbed of stone core and fascine shoulder, built to carry …
### The Busyl Causeway (military_conflict, canon id: military-conflicts-busyl-causeway)
The Long Fault The Gift of Mud The causeway is where imperial logistics stops being an assumption and becomes an institution. The aftermath of the Great Wyrm War credits the founding of the first Imperial Logistics Corps to the strain of long campaigning; the specific failure it was founded to prevent is this one. Revakgol never again attempted to cross the Ihtaa Fens. Phase III begins with the decision to drain and flank instead. The Zegtuzsos had been watching the causeway advance for four years and had prepared the crossing point for two. They let the vanguard pass unmolested - the …
### The Saark (location · cliff-line, canon id: locations-the-saark)
Dry, windy, and defensible to a degree that made assault pointless. Water came from springs within the rock, which is why the Yuliz citadels had to be traced and cut rather than simply blockaded. A long escarpment where the fen basin ends and the highland country begins. The Zegtuzsos cut citadels into its face rather than building on top of it - approach from below is exposed and approach from above requires already holding the highlands. The Road War, 1286-1297. Revakgol advanced along the cliff base by fortified road, reducing citadels in sequence. Three fell during the Yuliz Sieges of …
### The Siege of Kaagaat (military_conflict, canon id: military-conflicts-siege-of-kaagaat)
The Last Clutch The refusal to assault is the tactical fact underneath the political choice the parent entry already records. Storming Kaagaat would have killed the surviving Mulaagjuns, and Kaemisyol wanted the Paathur system intact and legitimate enough to govern through. A bastion taken by storm has no one left with the standing to surrender it.
The delegation went to Vusokaar in 1305. The Paathur system was preserved beneath the Dovahrein; imperial garrisons were admitted at key sites; the Mulaagjuns kept authority over Zegtuzsos villages. Kaemisyol invested it in the winter of 1303 and …
