Izheim Union — new Silgolt federal republic (spatial-only country)

Grounded solely on map/spatial countries.json (Izheim feature), spatial-brief.md label "Izheim Union", Silgolt continent species/biome summary (Saarotsos, Zegtuzsos, Yukejulhel/humans, etc.), and adjacency to Bakib / Komistaal / Revakgol. No prior canon entity exists for Izheim. Revakgol and Thalon used only as relational contrast.

Ask

Propose a full first-draft country entity for Izheim (map label: Izheim Union), a spatial-only polity on Silgolt that currently has zero canon lore.

Grounding

  • Map/spatial: country feature "Izheim" with provinces (Dehatereda, Dretharith, Drypost, Imyhonamarlor, Karilondela, Losts, Matheas, Nythe, Shebellera, …).
  • Spatial brief labels it "Izheim Union".
  • Silgolt species context: Saarotsos (Dragonborn), Zegtuzsos (Lizardborn), Yukejulhel (humans), Kaetijulhel (dwarves), Aedhelirjul (gnomes).
  • Existing canon neighbors for contrast: Empire of Revakgol (east, absolute hierarchy), Bakib (United Provinces), Komistaal (Kingdom).

Items in this package

  1. Overview (this item) — framing only.
  2. Entity: Izheim Union — complete new country entity draft under a Silgolt nations path.

Design choices

  • Federal / confederal republic deliberately contrasting Revakgol’s rigid Aalki system.
  • Multi-species, pragmatic, trade-oriented.
  • Capital left as a placeholder suggestion (no settlement entity yet).
  • Relations sketched at a high level only; no hard new person or settlement entities.

Open questions for the human reviewer

  • Exact capital settlement name and whether a new settlement entity should be created.
  • Precise borders / which provinces are core vs. contested.
  • Official language(s) and currency name.
  • Whether to add relationship edges to Revakgol / Bakib / Komistaal once those entities exist or are patched.
  • Tone: keep the deliberately anti-centralist character, or lean more toward a stronger federal executive?

Izheim Union

countries_and_continents.continents.silgolt.nations.izheim.izheim_union country nation

A decentralized federal republic of autonomous provinces on Silgolt, formed as a deliberate counterweight to hierarchical empires such as Revakgol. The Izheim Union prizes provincial sovereignty, multi-species pragmatism, and riverine trade over centralized command or arcane supremacy.

Also known as Izheim, the Union, United Provinces of Izheim

Content

Description

The Izheim Union is a loose federal republic occupying a cluster of provinces on Silgolt. It was shaped by a long memory of overbearing central authority elsewhere on the continent and therefore keeps power deliberately fragmented among its member provinces. Day-to-day life, taxation, local law, and most military readiness remain provincial concerns; the Union level exists mainly for foreign affairs, inter-provincial arbitration, and joint defense of trade corridors.

Structure
Overview
Federal / confederal arrangement. Provinces retain primary sovereignty.
Legislative Body

Provincial Assembly — delegates from each province; major Union-wide laws require supermajority.

Executive Body

High Steward (or a short-term Steward-Council of three) elected by the Assembly for a fixed term. Handles diplomacy, joint defense coordination, and arbitration. Cannot freely override provincial law.

Judicial Body

Union Tribunal — limited jurisdiction over inter-provincial disputes and charter cases.

Power Structure System

Highly decentralized. Provinces keep their own militias, tax codes, and customary law.

Government System
Federal republic / confederation of provinces
Leader Title
High Steward
Demonym
Izheimite
Culture

Pragmatic, multi-species, and commercially minded. Provincial identity often outweighs Union identity. Public culture values negotiation, river trade, and resistance to over-centralization. Magic is present but largely guild- or temple-based rather than state-monopolized.

Public Agenda

Preserve provincial autonomy, keep trade routes open, maintain a defensive buffer against more hierarchical neighbors, and avoid entanglement in continental wars of ideology or conquest.

Assets

Network of river ports and overland trade posts; provincial grain and mineral surpluses; a modest joint treasury funded by negotiated provincial contributions; inter-provincial road and river infrastructure maintained under Assembly oversight.

History

Exact founding date and predecessor polities remain open. Narrative framing treats the Union as a post-conflict or post-overreach settlement among formerly independent or loosely allied provinces that preferred federation to absorption by larger imperial systems (especially the model represented by Revakgol).

Territory

Core provinces drawn from the spatial set associated with Izheim (including Dehatereda, Dretharith, Drypost, Imyhonamarlor, Karilondela, Losts, Matheas, Nythe, Shebellera and related districts). Exact mapped extent and contested border zones are left for later refinement against the spatial data.

Demography And Population

Mixed population dominated by humans (Yukejulhel) with substantial Saarotsos and Zegtuzsos communities and smaller Kaetijulhel and Aedhelirjul enclaves, especially in upland or craft-oriented districts. No single species holds formal constitutional privilege.

Military

Primarily provincial militias coordinated, when needed, under a thin Union command layer. Emphasis on river and road defense, rapid local musters, and avoidance of large standing armies that could threaten provincial balance.

Foreign Relations
Overall Strategy

Cautious neutrality, preference for commercial treaties and defensive understandings over permanent alliances or expansion.

Empire Of Revakgol

Formal non-aggression and limited trade; structural mutual suspicion. Izheim regards Revakgol’s absolute hierarchy and regulated magic as the political opposite of its own system. Border provinces maintain watch-posts; low-level friction over refugees, smuggling, and competing claims is common.

Bakib

Closest commercial and cultural partner. Shared river systems and overlapping merchant networks produce frequent joint ventures and occasional dual arrangements. Relations are generally warm but competitively mercantile.

Komistaal

Cordial and formal. The more monarchical Komistaal sometimes serves as intermediary in dealings that involve Revakgol. Occasional merchant-house ties and diplomatic marriages across the border.

Thalon And Siniath

Distant. Limited scholarly or arcane exchange; Thalonic high-elven supremacy feels culturally alien to most Izheimites.

Religion

No official state religion. Local cults, ancestral practices, and species-specific traditions coexist under provincial tolerance rules. Union-level policy is non-interference so long as public order and inter-provincial commerce are not disrupted.

Economic System

Mixed market economy with strong provincial variation. River trade, seasonal agriculture in tropical/savanna zones, and modest mining form the backbone. Exports and imports are managed largely at the provincial and merchant-house level, with the Union intervening only on major corridor or tariff questions.

Technological And Scientific Level

Comparable to the broader Silgolt baseline — pre-industrial material culture elevated by practical enchantment and guild knowledge rather than centralized arcane academies.

Capital

Placeholder: a neutral inland or riverine trade hub among the listed provinces (exact settlement name and entity still open).

Laws

Union charter sets the outer bounds of provincial authority and the rules of the Assembly and Tribunal. Most substantive law remains provincial. Enforcement is primarily local; Union officers appear only in inter-provincial or charter matters.

Agriculture And Industry

Seasonal farming suited to Silgolt’s tropical seasonal forest, savanna, and wetland zones; river fisheries; localized mining and craft production. No single dominant industrial monoculture.

Trade And Transport

River corridors are the primary arteries. Overland roads link provincial centers. External trade flows toward Bakib and, more cautiously, toward Revakgol markets or intermediary houses.

Education

Provincial academies, guild apprenticeships, and temple schools. Literacy and practical training vary by province; no uniform Union education system.

Infrastructure

Shared responsibility for major river works and inter-provincial roads; everything else is provincial. Maintenance quality is uneven and a frequent subject of Assembly debate.
