At mid-peak, Revakgol splits into two imperial administrations: the East Pyre at Vusokaar and the West Pyre in the Tovo marches. For decades both issue law, mint loyalty, and claim the Aalki’s fire. When the schism ends, the west is not truly reabsorbed — Tovo and neighboring march polities peel into clients, neutrals, or free clutch-leagues. The empire’s greatest map becomes a memory.

Summary
At mid-peak, Revakgol splits into two imperial administrations: the East Pyre at Vusokaar and the West Pyre in the Tovo marches. For decades both issue law, mint loyalty, and claim the Aalki’s fire. When the schism ends, the west is not truly reabsorbed — Tovo and neighboring march polities peel into clients, neutrals, or free clutch-leagues. The empire’s greatest map becomes a memory.
Causes
Overstretch along the western Long Road creates a second gravity well: march armies, Deepmetal-adjacent trade (still limited), and Furaktuz who answer logistics more than basalt palace politics. A contested succession (blood claim in Vusokaar vs war-mandate of a Western Daiintuz or march Aalki-claimant) coincides with Dovaarein deadlock. Peak wealth funds two courts instead of one reconciliation.
Course
East Pyre: traditional capital, Code priesthood, older clan Dovaarein, eastern legions. West Pyre: fortress-court in the Tovo marches (proposed name: Kaer’Zulkath, “Ember-Hold of the West” — not a map country; a historical fortress label). Each appoints rival Daiintuz, seals Tazri licenses, and brands the other usurper. Open field battles are fewer than sieges of depots and assassinations of Junir. Zegtuzsos march populations are courted by both sides with promises of Paathur dignity or tax relief; Unburned cells exploit the noise. Neither side can destroy the other’s core for nearly three generations of officers.
Outcome
Settlement favors Vusokaar’s line on paper: West Pyre claimant dies, abdicates, or accepts a lesser title. In practice the western machinery of rule does not return intact. March lords who fed the West Pyre keep arms, tolls, and local law. Imperial maps still shade Tovo for a time; tribute becomes irregular, then ceremonial, then absent.
Territorial Change
Administrative split of the empire ~8400–8680 MV. After reunification-in-name: durable loss of direct rule over Tovo corridor and fragments of northern/western marches. Many later map polities (Tovo, and Zegtuzsos-coded neighbors such as Zegkruz, Tuzraag, Siltuz, Aalhotikyn, Ohynso, Hihn, Kokit, Ygtaani, Urlyk, Ikirlyknek, Mize) inherit this peel as free, client, or hostile status — exact mix varies by locality and century. Eastern core remains East Pyre continuous.
Legacy
Second great proof of fracture — this time at maximum size, so the shame is greater. “Twin Pyres” becomes a curse in Vusokaar (“do not light a second hearth”). Western oral histories remember a near-capital of their own. Sets the Hollow Marches: an empire that still speaks as if peak maps were law. Direct ancestor of the multi-faction civil wars that nearly end the state in Aasa’s youth.
