Julhel Mythology Attempt #2
I'll read the full mission packet and verify the Julhel grounding sources before delivering one coherent mythology outline.Continuing through the council rounds and remaining canon constraints.Verifying critical source claims against the Julhel files so the outline stays grounded.# Julhel Mythology Outline — Attempt #2
Status: Lore proposal for the Creator (human Loremaster). Nothing below is promoted to canon.
Mission: mythology of the Julhel on Hjemland; gods, if any, emerge from local collective belief — not from the scholarly genus.
Authority: grounded frame from species files; invention only where marked Proposed.
0. Hard constraints (do not soft-edit)
| Rule | Source |
|---|---|
| Vernacular endonym is human / humanity. Julhel, Medesjul, Kaetijul, Jaajul, Aedhelirjul are Sigtaara scholarly drawers. | overview_julhel.json |
| Folk myths are local and usefully wrong. No founding god is required for true origin. | overview_julhel.json |
| Humans do not know the Ego / Ykheri / Long Season frame, nor Root–Stone as scholarly history. | overview_julhel.json, branch files |
| True becoming: The Long Season (MV 1600–2200) on Hjemland — stability, not a gift-god. Divergence: Forking of Root and Stone (ecological; still one humanity). | overview_julhel.json, the_long_season.json |
| No Julhel pantheon folder exists. Pantheon tree holds Aedhel + Dovagoraan only. | desk verify, /app/canon/json/pantheons/ |
| Unfinished Work is not a known god. | kaetijul.json |
Cut the mission phrase: “gods from Julhel collective belief” becomes gods from local debt — hearth, hall, craft-line. One stock, many wrong places. No pan-human church by default.
1. What this mythology is
Not a stock pantheon. Not a creation liturgy matching the scholarly triad.
It is two durable wrong-centers that already sit in canon, plus the silence and borrow of later branches. Pressure is obligation — what kin will still defend — not doctrine recited from a common book.
Playable test: at a funeral, a market quarrel, an apprenticeship claim of voice, or a forge-oath, which local continuity is named? That is where belief lives. Gods, if they ever harden, climb out of that pressure later.
2. Frame only — two wrong-centers
2.1 Surface (Medesjul): Many First Fires
Grounded (medesjul.json, overview_julhel.json):
- No single founding myth of fire or rupture shared by all surface humans.
- Many First Fires: every valley and harbor claims the oldest continuous hearth as the true beginning of people.
- Origin is political and local: our flame is the oldest. No agreed first human. No named roster of hearths in file.
- Underneath: a quieter sense of becoming — weather, land, kin — never Ykheri-as-origin.
Lived pressure (paraphrase of canon, not new rite): whose fire kin will still defend when continuity is challenged (death, inheritance, market quarrel, alliance claim). The argument is the religion; it does not need a temple to hurt.
Not in frame: named First Fires, ash-luck customs, shared fire-god, pan-surface orthodoxy.
2.2 Deep (Kaetijul): Unfinished Work / First Cut
Grounded (kaetijul.json, overview_julhel.json):
- Unfinished Work — genesis-hook: something began a people in the mountain and left the work incomplete; deep humanity finishes itself by delving, shaping, enduring. Beginner is faceless; vacancy is the point. Explicitly not a known god.
- First Cut — identity-marker only: they became themselves at the first deliberate, permanent cut into living rock. Craft and peoplehood meet there.
- Open controversy (still not a deity): whether Unfinished Work implies a forgotten maker, or whether incompleteness is the whole truth — seers vs secular craft authorities divide on this (
kaetijul.jsoncontroversies). - Surface and deep argue primacy of fire versus cut; neither preserves the shared Long Season origin.
Craft-oath under that pressure (once, paraphrased — not liturgy):
- First Iron Covenant (
kaetijul.jsontradition): iron must be unmade by fire and remade by intention before it becomes useful. Traced to human forge practice; not a divine midwife. - Taboos as clan craft-pressure, not priest code: careless/deceitful metalwork; forsaking the Covenant; lying in stone-speech or forge-oath; abandoning a hall or vein-cut half-finished; selling Deepmetal to covenant-breakers.
- Adjacent craft speech only (not cult calendar): Stone-speech, Anvil Measure, Long Crossing rites — work traditions, not shrines.
Not in frame: Unfinished Work as stock deep watcher; Covenant-as-god; Anvil Measure as rite calendar; holdfast-saints imported from diaspora place-names (Kurnumgrath, Triple Spire, Mosshell, etc.) onto Hjemland cosmogony.
2.3 Mixed and contact branches
| Branch | Cosmogony in frame | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Jaajul | No separate cosmic origin. Same Long Season stock (scholars know; folk may not care). Stories attach to local hearths or halls, not a Jaajul genesis. | jaajul.json |
| Aedhelirjul | No Long Season claim of their own. Origin stories, when told, are contact-era: harbors, exile roads, Izheim and mixed settlements — not First Wounds, not the mountain’s Unfinished Work. | aedhelirjul.json |
They do not supply a third wrong-center. They borrow, stay quiet, or quarrel with the two centers already in the room.
3. What folk do not say
Leave these off folk lips (scholarly / true-event layer only):
- The Long Season as named origin hour
- Ego of Fir’Gol / Ykheri as midwife
- Forking of Root and Stone as doctrine
- Id / Superego / scar-lineage triad as human self-description
Folk may invent stories that fail to match the triad (overview_julhel.json). That license is for local invention under the two centers — not a blank check for a genus pantheon.
4. Fifth Age scraps — not Long Season cosmogony
These exist as event-line thin material, not frame:
- Rootbind Oath / nature-spirits — Segenhain founding epithet
- Flamewake — warlord epithet (Tjastad), not hearth or oath
- Shared Kori academies (Confederation) — institutional, not folk genesis
- Silent Integration: dragon myths as “forgotten hubris” — cross-border legend, not a human church charter
Do not weld these into a third center or a pan-human “obligation theology.”
5. How gods emerge — Proposed annex only
Mission satisfied without laundering a pantheon into the frame:
Gods do not descend on the Julhel. They harden, if at all, where a local debt already has defenders and a name that can be insulted.
Proposed (not frame, no names this pass):
- Personification attaches only to local debt
- A named continuous hearth still defended at quarrel or funeral (surface branch of Many First Fires).
- A lineage’s permanent piece still counted when apprentices claim voice (deep branch of First Cut / craft standing). - Never personify Unfinished Work as a stock deep deity. Vacancy stays the point (
kaetijul.json). - Never a pan-human shrine or stock-wide church from the genus label.
- Never promote First Iron Covenant → god without separate Loremaster leave; it remains forge-oath speech under First Cut.
- Never import Namuzdus diaspora hall-names as Hjemland First-Fire roster.
- Thin later promotions only (still Proposed, still place-bound): e.g. a valley’s hearth-continuity spoken as if it had a will; a lineage’s first permanent mark treated as witness at voice-claim. No stock names until a real place earns them.
If the Loremaster later wants one test case of personification, pick one Hjemland valley or one craft-line debt — not both welded into orthodoxy.
6. Branch friction (useful wrongs, one stock)
Keep contradiction; do not smooth it:
| Tension | Grounded shape |
|---|---|
| Fire vs cut | Surface primacy of continuous hearth vs deep primacy of permanent mark (kaetijul.json controversies). |
| Many vs incomplete | Surface argues which beginning; deep argues that beginning was left unfinished. |
| Maker vs vacancy | Deep only: forgotten maker vs incompleteness-as-truth — seers vs craft authorities. |
| Mixed silence | Jaajul attaches to local hearths/halls; refuses a third genesis. |
| Contact borrow | Aedhelirjul tells harbors and mixed roads; does not claim mountain Work. |
| Scholarly overlay | Outsiders sort Julhel drawers; at home everyone still says human. |
Two well-chosen wounds beat a full bleeding map. These are enough.
7. Explicitly rejected (this pass)
- Pan-Julhel pantheon or “human church of Hjemland”
- Unfinished Work as known god / “Work watching back”
- Named First Fires roster invented to fill silence
- First Iron Covenant liturgy, priests, or covenant-god
- Anvil Measure as sacred calendar
- Holdfast-saints from Triple Spire / diaspora geography as Hjemland cosmogony
- Rootbind / Flamewake / Kori academies as Long Season folk center
- Ash-booth luck, threshold salt, or other unfile rite written as lived custom
- Folk knowledge of Long Season / Ykheri / Root–Stone
8. Outline summary (what to keep on the table)
JULHEL MYTHOLOGY (Hjemland) — bare frame
├── Endonym: human (always)
├── Scholarly genus: Julhel [overview_julhel.json]
├── True origin (off folk lips): Long Season → Fork of Root and Stone
├── Wrong-center A — Surface (Medesjul): Many First Fires
│ └── rival continuous hearths; no cradle; no named roster yet
├── Wrong-center B — Deep (Kaetijul): Unfinished Work + First Cut
│ ├── Work = not a known god; vacancy is the point
│ └── First Iron Covenant = one craft-oath paraphrase + taboo pressure
├── Jaajul: no separate cosmogony; local hearth/hall stories
├── Aedhelirjul: contact-era stories only
└── Proposed annex only: local personification of named debt
(hearth continuity | lineage permanent piece)
— no pan-human shrine, no Work-as-god, no names this pass
9. What I ask of the Creator
If any of this should harden toward canon-candidate, decide in leverage order:
- Confirm bare frame — two wrong-centers only; no third center from Fifth Age scraps.
- Confirm ban — Unfinished Work stays non-deity; gods only from local debt.
- Optional next pass (Proposed): one named surface hearth or one deep lineage permanent piece as a test personification — place-bound, not stock-wide.
- Leave closed unless you open them: Covenant→god, Anvil Measure calendar, holdfast-saints, pan-human debt.
Silyuhn / Rîwɔk:
The room converged cleanly. Ore was thin and true: two wrong-centers, obligation before pantheon, gods only if debt hardens somewhere real. I have not dressed vacancy as a god, nor Many First Fires as a single flame-cult. The outline answers the quest without inventing a church the files refuse.
Human canon authority stands. Mark, cut, or name what survives.
