Title Text

# Story Bible: The Ninth Night

**Working Title:** The Ninth Night
**Form:** Short story (or short-chapter book)
**Genre / Tone:** Ethereal historical fantasy, beautiful sorrow, visionary / dream-sorcery, restrained mystery. Nostiriel-aligned.
**POV:** Close third-person limited on Nenekyn, or shifting poetic distance.
**Length target:** 4,000–8,000 words (or 5–9 short chapters).

## Central Character
**Nenekyn Riiulgruth**
- Honorific: Siren-Dreamer of the Ninth Moon
- Also known as: The Ninth Night, She Who Returned from the Drowned
- Species: Zaetaedhel (Sea Elf)
- Born: 15 Etzil, 480 ASS (10012 MV), Drifting Reefs of Uruvaril
- Appearance: Cool grey-lavender skin that gleams under moonlight; long black curls tinged with reefshine violet, often woven with drift-coral and shell-pendants; large almond-shaped purple eyes like twilight ocean depths; gill-mark ridges on neck/jaw; later sea-scribed tattoos from Lotkrosis.
- Role: Dream-Vigilant of the Tide-Seers; first known mortal to land on Lotkrosis after the Firraaii ascended.
- Motivation: Reveal concealed dreams; witness the unknowable. Truth as returning tide; memory sacred.
- Voice: Metaphoric, rhythmic, distant. Speaks in tide and dream imagery.
- Alignment: Neutral Good (revelation and witness).
- Canon fate: Unknown after the poems; cultic ancestor of the Riiulgruth dreamline (descendant: Finaanaa Riiulgruth).

## Key Canon Events (must respect)
- 512 ASS / 10118 MV — First Landing on Lotkrosis: Nenekyn survives nine days on the jagged coast and returns.
- She composes the *Nine Dream-Poems of Hollow Tides*.
- 742 ASS — The Hollowing Song (sailors follow her echoes; one returns speaking in verse).

## Setting
- **Home:** Drifting Reefs of Uruvaril (Zaetaedhel Tide-Seer culture).
- **Journey:** Southern seas toward Lotkrosis.
- **Lotkrosis:** Haunted continent, residual Arcane Sea / Ykheri anomalies, Firraaii echoes. Coastal, jagged, wrong light, hollow memory. She never goes deep inland.
- **Tone of place:** Beautiful sorrow, not pulp horror. The land itself seems to dream and to see her.

## Themes
- Memory vs. the Great Forgetting
- Truth as tide that returns
- The cost of witnessing what was meant to stay drowned
- Isolation of the visionary
- Nostiriel’s beautiful sorrow

## Style Constraints
- Metaphoric speech and internal monologue.
- Avoid modern slang or conventional adventure tropes.
- Physical details stay close to the established portrait.
- No invention of major new companions, definitive death, or deep-inland exploration that contradicts the “coastal nine days” record.
- Poems (if included) should feel fragmentary, tidal, incomplete.

## Supporting Elements (optional, non-canon expansion only if needed)
- Tide-Seer elders who caution her.
- The moonbone tablets.
- The slow appearance of the sea-scribed tattoos.
- A single returning image of the “ninth night” under a rare moon.

## Legacy Hook (epilogue possible)
The poems seed later Lotkrosis cults and the Hollowing Song. Nenekyn becomes an unreachable ancestor figure.
